Seldom does a large area of land come to the market in Central Southland that has the option of milking platform or finding the sweet spot around self-containment. Browns Pastoral Limited Partnership comprises 366ha with good level of infrastructure including a 40 bail rotary cowshed, manager's home, and three other staffing houses. There is a concrete calving pad and large silage pad all situated around the cowshed hub. A new effluent pond has been built as well as a new effluent consent out until 2032.
Since the farm has been owned by current vendor, the production has been as high as 312,000kg MS as a milking platform. The farm is now run by a well-regarded 50:50 sharemilker who is milking 700 cows and using the balance of the farm as semi self-contained. Farm is targeting 300,000kg MS ex 700 cows in this current 2021/22 season.
